The Sunday Pola Food Walk with Local Breakfast

What this tour is about: This is a food walk for those interested in learning more about authentic Sri Lankan cuisine.

This Pola or Sandhe is a weekly market that has everything under the sun. It is not just a market, but also a meeting place for the community. In this tour, we join a knowledgeable local lady, as she goes about doing her Sunday Pola shopping. She is a food expert, very well-versed with Sri Lankan cuisine. From her, we will learn about the spices, herbs, fruits, vegetables, dried fish, pickles, and other ingredients that make up Sri Lankan cuisine. Since her English is not fluent, your chauffer-guide will assist where required.

At the Pola there are small local stalls offering specialty home-cooked foods. We will taste some of these typical local dishes, and learn about traditional recipes. We will then drive to a nearby popular local restaurant for a full Sri Lankan breakfast.

The Pola is in the city outskirts, so it takes 30 minutes in the morning to drive there.
